Designed for 4th Graders

Strengthen close reading, analytical thinking, and clear writing. This 10-session virtual tutoring program deepens comprehension, builds academic vocabulary, and develops organized, evidence-based writing aligned to 4th grade standards. Students read across genres, analyze author’s craft, and communicate ideas with confidence.

What Your Child Will Learn | Session-by-Session

Session 1: Vocabulary in Context & Word Study | Use context and reference tools to determine meanings. Practice affixes and roots (mis-, sub-, -ment, -ity/ty; auto, graph, meter).

Session 2: Inference & Text Evidence | Make inferences and support conclusions with strong, relevant quotations and details.

Session 3: Summarizing & Paraphrasing | Retell, paraphrase, and summarize multi-paragraph texts while maintaining meaning and logical order.

Session 4: Character Interactions & Changes | Explain how internal and external traits influence interactions and how characters change across a story.

Session 5: Plot Structure & Setting | Analyze rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Explain how the setting affects the plot and characters.

Session 6: Theme & Author’s Message | Infer theme and distinguish it from topic. Explain the author’s purpose and message using text evidence.

Session 7: Informational Text: Central Idea & Features | Identify central idea with supporting evidence and analyze print/graphic features. Recognize organizational patterns such as compare and contrast.

Session 8: Author’s Craft, POV & Drama | Describe how imagery, simile, metaphor, alliteration, and assonance achieve purpose. Identify first- or third-person point of view and explain basic drama structure (character tags, acts, scenes, stage directions).

Session 9: Writing Workshop | Plan and draft with an introduction, transitions, and conclusion. Develop ideas with relevant details, revise for coherence and clarity, and edit for conventions (singular/plural, common/proper nouns).

Session 10: Integrated Reading & Writing | Read paired literary and informational texts, summarize and cite evidence, and publish a short essay. Recognize a claim in argumentative text and how facts support it.
