What Your Child Will Learn | Session-by-Session
Session 1: Vocabulary in Context | Use print/digital resources and context clues to determine meanings, including multiple-meaning words and idioms.
Session 2: Characters and Relationships | Explain internal/external traits, relationships among characters, and how these influence the plot.
Session 3: Plot and Setting | Analyze sequence of events, conflict, and resolution, and explain how the setting impacts the story.
Session 4: Theme and Author’s Purpose | Infer theme, distinguish it from topic, and explain the author’s purpose and message using evidence.
Session 5: Informational Text Structures | Identify central idea, supporting evidence, and features such as tables, graphs, and timelines.
Session 6: Making Inferences and Synthesizing | Draw inferences using text evidence and synthesize information across texts.
Session 7: Writing With Structure | Plan, draft, and organize writing with a clear introduction, conclusion, and supporting details.
Session 8: Revising and Editing | Revise for clarity, coherence, and word choice; edit for correct verb tense and conventions.
Session 9: Poetry and Figurative Language | Analyze rhyme scheme, sound devices, imagery, similes, and figurative language in poems.
Session 10: Integrated Practice | Read literary and informational texts, respond with evidence, and publish a final piece of writing.
