What Your Child Will Learn | Session-by-Session
Session 1: Characters and Settings | Identify who a story is about, where and when it happens, and use pictures to clarify word meanings.
Session 2: Plot and Retelling | Recognize beginning, middle, and end. Retell main events and explain the problem and solution.
Session 3: Fables and Lessons | Discuss theme and the lesson a character learns. Use text evidence to support ideas.
Session 4: Informational Text Basics | Find the topic and central idea. Notice headings, pictures, and captions to learn new facts.
Session 5: Predictions and Inference | Make predictions and simple inferences using clues in the text and background knowledge.
Session 6: Poetry Spotlight | Explore rhyme, rhythm, and repetition. Read short poems aloud with expression.
Session 7: Different Lands, Similar Stories | Compare versions of a story from different cultures and discuss how characters respond to events.
Session 8: Author’s Purpose | Explain why an author wrote a text and how the author helps the reader learn or enjoy the story.
Session 9: Writing Responses and Opinions | Write brief responses that include a clear idea, adjectives for detail, and neat conventions.
Session 10: Integrated Reading and Writing | Read a short story and a short informational text, then write about what was learned using evidence.
